University of Zakho Holds Scientific Workshop on Cultural and Religious Diversity
On Monday, February 9, 2026, the Zakho Center for Kurdish Studies and the Directorate of International Relations Affairs at the University of Zakho, organized an academic workshop as part of broader efforts to promote religious and national Diversity in the Kurdistan Region, with particular emphasis on the city of Zakho.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the significance of the intellectual and cultural heritage of the region’s diverse components, while reinforcing the values of mutual respect, coexistence, and acceptance of others within educational environments. The event targeted supervisors and educators from the humanities disciplines such as history, Kurdish language, sociology, and related fields within the Zakho Directorate of Education.
During the workshop, several academic projects were presented and discussed. These projects focused on identifying key challenges and central issues related to the cultural heritage of the region’s various components. Following each presentation, participants, drawing on their teaching experience and educational contexts, outlined practical plans and proposed solutions to address the issues raised.
The organizers and participants emphasized the importance of submitting the outcomes of these academic discussions and projects to the relevant authorities in order to translate recommendations into actionable policies.
At the end of the workshop, the President of the University of Zakho, Prof. Dr. Diyar A. Saeed, welcomed the participants and presented certificates of participation. He underscored the importance of sustaining such academic activities and continuing intellectual exchange and dialogue as a foundation for strengthening coexistence and Diversity in the region.
